The body can help relax the mind.

The flow of feeling can relax the senses and open the heart.
Eyes can luxuriate in the beauty of light;
ears can hear tones that evoke exquisite nuances of feeling
and cause vibrations to reverberate through the body.

The nose can refresh the body with the fragrance of flowers 
and scents that recall memories of crisp autumn days.

The body relishes the flow of the wind and the warmth of the sun.

Relieved of constricting pressures,
the mind responds to deep flows of feeling and offers thoughts rich in meaning.

Touch the inner essence of relaxation…

Encouragements, discouragements, neutral observations –
all of these messages may only be meaningless mind chatter,
stirred up on the surface of mind by tension or anxiety.

None of them, not even the interpretations and commentaries,
can touch the inner essence of relaxation
or invite the joy of experience to come out.

There is no need to respond to them,
follow their dialogues, or reflect on their significance.

It is not important whether you are confused or not confused,
whether or not you have thoughts.

As much as possible, let this entire stream of activity
flow by without paying it any attention.

Relax deeply and allow the body to be still and the mind to calm down.

The first step [to get in touch with joy] is

to remain in calmness,
to keep our seat.

Our sense-experiences, out thoughts and feelings, come and go,
but calmness is our steady companion,
