Taking refuge in our hearts…

We can find satisfaction anywhere
-a simple walk may give more pleasure than any other entertainment.

But until we open our hearts,
there is little inspiration, inner light, or warmth to sustain us,
for we are constantly undermining ourselves.

Ultimately no one can help us very much unless we take the first step,
listen to ourselves, encourage ourselves, and
give ourselves confidence by taking refuge in our hearts.

A humble and fearless attitude of openness and generosity

Without compassion,
thoughts and actions are based on
desire for egotistical or selfish gratification.

But genuine compassion,
which is the antidote to ego,
arises from a humble and fearless attitude
of openness and generosity.

Our inner sanctuary of the heart

We need to encourage our warm and positive feelings.

This warmth is not a superficial or sentimental  emotion
– the kind that leads to imbalance
and often creates ‘panic’ instead of calm.

It is a genuine openness which is felt
as a deep warmth in the center of the heart,
which is our inner sanctuary, our own home.

A more open way of life…

The best route to a more open way of life is the practice of stillness.

Stillness comes as a result of loosening up long-standing tensions.

We slowly smooth out, and the oscillations of our senses and emotions, bit by bit, subside.

Accepting and loving ourselves

Before we can listen to the higher self within,
we need to learn to accept and love ourselves.

When the heart center opens,
this is the beginning of the path of openness,
compassion, and commitment.

When our hearts are open, no problem is too great.

We have what we need, we are what we seek…

Beyond the pre-patterned character of experience,
beyond all mental activity, there may exist a completely different reality –
a total openness.

We discover that we have what we need and
we are what we seek:
like space, we are already open.
