A more open way of life…

The best route to a more open way of life is the practice of stillness.

Stillness comes as a result of loosening up long-standing tensions.

We slowly smooth out, and the oscillations of our senses and emotions, bit by bit, subside.

Everything becomes relaxation

Once we tap relaxation,
we learn to operate sensations and emotions
with a playful, open attitude, and
everything becomes relaxation.

We know that within every feeling or sensation
there is the pure energy
– that both `negative’ and `positive’ emotions
are flexible manifestations of energy,

Beyond emotional reactions

Everything is judged in terms of how it relates to a person’s emotions.

It is quite possible for a human being,
even one who is not enlightened,
to have goals, commitments, and personal convictions
beyond merely emotional reactions and considerations.

Emotions have no real substance…

Just as water in a clear pool
reflects the image of the moon and stars
without being affected by that image,
awareness can effect perceptions to us
without us having to be affected by them.

This is possible
even with sharp perceptions like anger.

In place of “I am angry”,
there can simply be anger.

They are only perceptions,
transient, changeable,
and without any real substance.

We can simply observe and experience them
for what they are,
and let them go.

All emotions are the same flavor

At what point does the  flavor we name agitation come up?
Observing the arising, identification, and passing away of agitating emotions,
we gain insight into how our way of naming and identifying reality works
and how we might ease its hold on our consciousness.

Anger, frustration, confusion, and fear look different on the surface,
but all are essentially one flavor.

Any time they arise, you can melt them down
and use the essence of their energy
to call forth a more positive recognitio
n –
and bring pleasant, even blissful feelings into your fields of perception.

Be aware and accepting…

So do not let inner dialogues gain control;
relax and let Kum Nye do itself.

Direct your energy so that it flows freely –
physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Be aware and accepting,
`letting go’ without seriously paying attention to your inner dialogue
or getting involved in it.

Cleansing ourselves of inner confusion

The complexities of our mental patterns and the turbulence of upsetting emotions join like earth and water to create a kind of mud which we call ‘samsaric mind’. Until we can cleanse ourselves of inner confusion and penetrate the various ‘layers’ of this mind, our judgments and actions will only reflect our inherent restlessness, like bees trapped in a jar.

We can see them moving around in certain patterns, but without understanding their situation they can only move in Samsaric realms-each with its own unique loss of freedom. On the other hand, by properly investigating our immediate situation, we can learn how an integrated patterning of mind can totally free us from our self-imposed restrictions.
