The first step [to get in touch with joy] is
to learn how to get seated in experience.

Over time, as we continue to exercise, we encounter a calmness that does not disperse easily when thoughts or sensations come.

It becomes possible to remain:
to remain in calmness,
to keep our seat.

Our sense-experiences, out thoughts and feelings, come and go,
but calmness is our steady companion,
allowing us to make contact with
the subtle, balanced sustaining depths of practice.
