Out of an initial translucent awareness, fundamental roles are assigned: telling and told, creator and creation, and the temporal baseline along which the play of appearance unfolds.

Against the background of what is already established, mind classifies, categorizes and establishes patterns, relying on core distinctions such as right and wrong, or real and not real.

Caught up in mind’s rhythms, perceptions are structured by pre-existing attitudes and understandings that feed back to perception the expected, like a familiar face reflected in a mirror.
