At one level of response, our senses react automatically.

For example, the pupils of our eyes contract automatically to regulate light.

There is no opportunity to think about what is happening or make conscious decisions about what to do.

Our energy is caught up in the momentum of experiencing.
The stimulation of the senses and the momentum of our internal responses are dramatic and powerful;
this interaction activates the most basic levels of our consciousness,
evoking images, sounds, smells, tastes, sensations, and thoughts,
together with feelings, memories,
and associations rich in tones and textures.
