Because we have innumerable expectations of the Dharma, it is easy to lose interest when there are no immediate results… we discover that it takes effort to persevere on the path to enlightenment.
We are easily lured from our search by friends, by family, and by our own desires. It is easy to get caught between our desire for enjoyment and our attempts to follow the teachings and to strengthen our practice.
For this reason, once we find a teaching which can help us, it is important that we stay with it, that we immerse ourselves in the Dharma as much as we can.
By doing this, we realize the true nature of the teachings, and find that the Dharma is a way of life in which selfish desires have no meaning or attraction.
