Spending time in a garden nourishes the soul;
it softens the heart
and tempers harsh, unaccommodating attitudes.
The heart opens
and we feel a deep connectedness
that cannot be pronounced or specified exactly,
a moment of childlike simplicity, wonder, and trust.
Once we recover this openness,
we can encourage ourselves
to open our hearts to human beings
and learn to love.
