We begin by developing stillness of body, breath, and mind.

Simply sitting still and relaxing gives us a chance to appreciate feelings of which
we are normally unaware.

Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche

We can do this, develop stillness, step by step, by getting in touch with the body.

One way to do this is to build up gradually throughout the week.

Mondays let’s focus on the sit-bones. For five minutes, two or three times today, just sit and do not let anything get between your sit bones and your awareness of your sit bones. You can be sitting on a chair (not leaning against the back) or on a cushion with crossed legs.

(You can even do this standing but then keep focus on the soles of your feet. You can do this lying down too, if you cannot sit or stand – just don’t fall asleep! Simply focus on some part of the body that is connected to something that is connected to the ground._

Only five minutes. Totally focused on your sit bones. If your mind wanders, just let the thought go and come back to intensely focusing on sit bones. Eventually the focus won’t be so intense, we will loosen it up once we know what it feels like. For today, especially if it is your first time, be tenacious and resolute. Concentrate on those sit bones!

Five minutes. Two or three times today. This is the first time. Have fun with it! And let me know if you give it a try and how it felt.

PS I’ll be tweeting reminders on Twitter during the day if you want to follow along there.
